Be Baroque

Inspired by Michelangelo’s 16th Century works, fashion has taken a turn for the opulent this season.

Voluminous shapes contrasted by waisted styles, embellished lace and endless reams of golden material flooded our senses at the A/W12 shows, filling us with a sense of decadence and true feminine grace.

Dolce & Gabbana lead the way with this overwhelmingly beautiful trend, giving us a storm of models decorated in black and burnished gold in varying shapes and silhouettes. Mini dresses, capes, puff-ball skirts, basques, maxi dresses and tunics were all embellished with intricate spirals, flowers and rope-like patterns in dark metallic thread.

And the baroque styles weren’t limited to clothing. Ornate headbands, decorated shoes and adorable clutch bags added to the general splendour of the spectacle. Follow D&G’s lead and invest in a few good baroque staples to keep you on trend this season. Jewellery and the odd accessory is the perfect way to integrate the style without looking like a subject of an oil painting.

Keep the colours subdued and the accessories bright to really work the most glamorous trend of the season.
